As I gaze upon my baby girl born yesterday morning at home I reflect on my partner Matthew Kahl and my journey with our first birth and hypnoBirthing experience with Courtney from Birth with Confidence. I know without doubt that the preparation and wisdom given by Courtney that we could have had a very different birthing story and my very experienced midwives agree, that our birth couldn’t have been more normal. Because that’s what birth is, normal, the most normal and natural thing that could ever occur in our lives. Sadly, this concept is, something my midwife reminded me of this morning, not something widely known or felt. She said, when you tell people your story there will be those who tell you “you got lucky. But luck has very little to do with it”. This I know to be true. And saying anything else discredits the preparation that is involved in HypnoBirthing and the work that Courtney does in preparing women & families. I believe that without Hypnobirthing I could not have surrendered to the experience of birth. I could not have embraced the power that is to be a woman and gatekeeper of life. And I would not have trusted my body and baby to know how to birth. I’m sure that like many other women the negative stories that I had heard my entire life about birth would have flooded my mind in those moments of desperation and I would have been overwhelmed and disempowered. But instead I was warrior woman, truly empowered and adamant about my positive birth.
As my first pregnancy and birth I had not much idea what I was stepping into as a woman. Except that, like all women, I had heard my fair share of other women’s birth experiences. Which to no one’s surprise were mostly horrible. Always on the lookout for positivity and healing experiences rather than harming experiences, I was desperate to escape the negativity of birth. I knew deep down, regardless of what I had heard and from how many women that it would be different for me, that birth was going to be natural and normal, and maybe even spiritual(?). And then we found Courtney. Meeting via zoom with my partner in tow we had no idea what to expect, I had obviously heard of hypnosis, but HypnoBirthing? By the end of the introduction session with Courtney my partner and I discussed and we were in, it ticked our boxes and we dug Courtney’s vibe. We set up to start the journey of our lives. Through the weeks of the course we discovered and discussed many things about birth, my body, what was normal, natural, what to expect and what to be prepared for. Courtney was always so helpful, understanding, insightful, and made our whole HypnoBirthing course something we will remember for a very long time. My partner and I always came away from sessions with some note worthy information, something we wished to discuss further together and something we discovered about each other or us as a couple through the course. The course was so beneficial to us both, as a couple and as a growing family. We learned so much and had a lot of laughs and “ah ha” moments doing it. We will definitely be back to brush up on our learnings for our next baby. Courtney is like part of our family now. Such a worthwhile course! Courtney is very knowledgeable and tailors the content to suit the needs/wants of the clients. She is very friendly, open and puts you at ease, creating a comfortable environment to learn in. I am feeling a lot more confident and relaxed about my second birth after a somewhat difficult first birthing experience. Thank you Courtney! 😃

“We have just completed our hypnobirthing course with Courtney and it has been such an educational, fun and amazing learning experience! We have learnt so many tools to help us prepare for and birth our first baby into the world. Courtney is amazing at what she does and offers a safe, non judgmental and open space for us to share with her our fears and help work through any doubts we have about birth and parenthood. The support and education provided though out the hypnobirthing course was very detailed and worth every cent! We both feel like we are now well educated and prepared for our daughters upcoming birth and are much more relaxed going forward. We can’t thank Courtney enough for all of her help and would recommend her and the hypnobirthing course to everyone!”
