24 Weeks Pregnant
The amount of weight baby puts on each week is steadily increasing now. Your baby is around 600g, 30cm long and the size of a cabbage.
Baby’s Development
Your baby has now grown eyelashes, eyebrows and hair, though they haven’t developed any colour, so the hair is still white.
Baby is sleeping for most of the time, but will have small awake periods, which you may notice it more active or sleep-wake patterns developing.
What’s Happening For You
- Your uterus is stretching and growing to accommodate baby, and will now be just above your belly button.
- You may now notice you’re uncomfortable when lying on your back, as baby can put pressure on your vena cava, a main blood vessel. If you change positions to your side, or semi reclined, it should be more comfortable and relieve the pressure from your vena cava.
- You can check out a video of your Vena Cava in pregnancy HERE.
- Your breasts may start to produce colostrum around this time. Colostrum can leak on and off for the rest of your pregnancy or you may not notice it all until the birth.
- Practice labour (Braxton Hicks) surges may also become more noticeable during this time.
Things To Consider
- Your care provider may talk to you about doing a test for gestational diabetes around week 24. This is a great time to start asking questions about the test, how it is done, how many women are diagnosed with gestational diabetes and what that means for their health, baby’s health and changes to how the birth might proceed.

Affirmation Of The Week
