9 Weeks Pregnant
You’re building a baby! Your baby is around 2 grams, 2.3cm long and the size of a kumquat.
Baby’s Development
Your baby’s brain is now visible through the fine skin that covers the head. The eyes can be seen through the now formed tiny eyelids. As small muscle fibres begin to grow, and the baby’s neck is becoming more developed, the baby may start to move.
Bone has begun to replace the cartilage, and the tail has almost disappeared (yep, it’s looking less like a tadpole). This baby is now looking much more human, with most of its internal organs present. The genitals are now well defined too.
What’s Happening For You
- Your belly is thickening, and your maternal blood volume has increased by 30-40%. You still have lots of important hormones working their magic, but this could mean you are still experiencing some nausea from the hormone Human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG). This hormone is present in the first trimester, so fingers crossed, if you are experiencing nausea and vomiting now, it should ease up in the next few weeks.
- If you haven’t chosen your care provider by now, this is definitely something you need to put some serious thought into. Read our blog on ‘Choosing the right Care provider’, and Knowing your Birth Options. We have a handy 40 Question Checklist that you can download, so that you have all the best questions to ask, so you can make the best decision for you.
