34 Weeks Pregnant

You are about 7 months and 2 weeks pregnant now! Your baby is around 2146g, 45cm long and the size of a wombok.

Baby’s Development

  • You baby’s brain is pretty much fully developed now and may have even started dreaming.
  • They are starting to get pretty snug inside so will now be curled up in the ‘fetal position’, with their knees up to their chest.
  • If this is your first baby, they may have started to turn head down. This is because their head is heavy and gravity turns them downwards.
  • In the last few weeks of pregnancy, baby’s head rests deeper and deeper in the pelvis. This is called ‘engaging’. You may feel some relief in your chest area and be able to breathe a little easie

What’s Happening For You

  • Your breasts may start to feel heavier as they get ready to breastfeed your baby. Some women find wearing a soft crop-top at night more comfortable.
  • If your pelvis is becoming heavier and more uncomfortable, there are things that can help. A physiotherapist or osteopath can make gentle adjustments to the area and a support belt can be useful.

Things To Consider

  • Try going for a swim to take the load off your body. Gentle freestyle or simply floating can be great for any aches and pains.
  • Because of your incredible hormone, Relaxin, your joints are getting more flexible in order to birth your baby. Don’t move to fast and keep your knees together when getting out of bed or the car.
  • Adding 200 calories to your diet is a great way to ensure you and baby are getting everything you need. Half an apple with some peanut butter in nice, or some carrots sticks and dip are both around 200 calories.
  • Now that you are in your 3rd trimester, it’s best to sleep on your side. This ensure good blood flow around your body and to your baby.
