PREGNANCY GUIDE

39 Weeks Pregnant

You’re almost there! Not long to go now. Enjoy these last days or weeks as much as you can. Your baby is around 3288g, 50.7cm long and the size of a watermelon.

Baby’s Development

Baby’s brain is still rapidly developing at this stage. Their little fingernails may extend past their fingertips now. Now it’s just time to wait for baby’s lungs to release a protein to trigger labour. This protein is released when baby’s lungs are ready to breathe oxygen in the outside world.

What’s Happening For You

  • The waiting game can be a time of all sorts of emotions. Happiness, excitement, sometimes fear and frustration.
  • You may be getting a strong urge to nest – clean the house, organise last minute things – this is very normal but try not to over do it.
  • This is a wonderful article that talks about these last days of pregnancy and how to work through them. Check it out HERE.

Things To Consider

  • The best thing you can do to encourage labour to start is to relax! Relaxation is what those birth hormones respond to so try not to get stressed wondering about labour.
  • You may like to consider something like acupuncture or a chiropractic adjustment to make sure the body is in great condition for labour.
